The College of Europe is seeking applications for the position of Library Officer (100% FTE), to join its Bruges campus, ideally at the beginning of May 2026.

The College of Europe is the oldest postgraduate institute of European studies, with campuses in Bruges (est. 1949), Natolin/Warsaw (est. 1992) and Tirana (est. 2024). Across the campuses, and under the motto of “studying and living Europe together”, the College hosts every year approximately 500 students of over 50 different nationalities, pursuing advanced Master’s programmes with a duration of 10 months in a residential format. Beyond a broad spectrum of additional executive education activities, the College also implements comprehensive training programmes for junior diplomats/officials from EU member states and the enlargement region.

The Role
Based in Bruges, the Library Officer will be working under the supervision of the Library Director, contributing to electronic information resource services as well as overall library operations.
The main tasks and responsibilities of the Library Officer:
- You enable user access to electronic resources by cataloguing and maintaining e-resource records;
- You monitor, review and negotiate contracts for online resources, in line with provided budgets and in collaboration with the Library Director;
- You advise the Library Director on the purchase of e-resources (journals, databases) after discussing it with academic stakeholders;
- You act as the first point of contact for library enquiries from students, staff and external visitors in person, by phone or by email;
- Together with other colleagues from the library, you staff the information desk (during weekdays and exceptionally on Saturdays);
- You perform administrative tasks, such as following up invoices and preparing public procurement files;
- You assess electronic resource usage and collect user’s feedback;
- You actively follow developments in open access and relevant technologies, such as AI and transfer knowledge to library users.
Your profile
For the position of Library Officer, the College is looking for candidates with:
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree;
- Preferably two years of professional experience in the library sector;
- Excellent command of English and Dutch; knowledge of French is considered an asset;
- Digital literacy skills, with a solid knowledge of e-resources and ICT tools such as MS Office365;
- Good analytical and organisational skills and attention to detail;
- A results-oriented, proactive and cooperative approach;
- A strong motivation and eagerness to learn and stay up to date with the latest know-how in your field;
- The ability to work autonomously and as a team member;
- Strong interpersonal, communication and networking skills and a flexible and dynamic attitude.
